Lethbridge College Faculty Association is now Lethbridge Polytechnic Faculty Association * * *

With over 300 members, Lethbridge Polytechnic Faculty Association and its members are building the economy of the future by making sure that Southern Albertans have the skills they need to succeed.

Our mission is to serve our members through contract negotiation and advocacy to build academic recognition through collaboration, mutual respect, and professional excellence.


Our Executive Team

Seth Adema

Lethbridge Polytechnic Faculty Association President

Seth has been faculty in the School of Justice Studies at Lethbridge Polytechnic since 2019. He holds a PhD in History from Wilfrid Laurier University, in which he studied the history of incarceration of Indigenous peoples in Canada. Previous to his role at Lethbridge Polytechnic he worked in policy roles for Chiefs of Ontario (a First Nations organization working on behalf of the 133 First Nations in Ontario) and the Ontario Ministry of the Solicitor General working on Corrections policy. 

Kerry Edwards

VP Negotiations & Welfare

Kerry Edwards is the Lethbridge Polytechnic Faculty Association VP Negotiations and Welfare for the coming term. He has extensive experience serving faculty in this role, and will be the lead on grievances and other welfare issues. Upon ratification of the 2020-24 Collective Agreement, he will also lead the bargaining process.

Roberta Smallbones

VP Administration

Roberta is a proud member of the Piikani Nation within the Blackfoot Confederacy. She holds a diploma in Criminal Justice (Policing) from Lethbridge Polytechnic, a Bachelor of Professional Arts in Criminal Justice from Athabasca University, and a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. She is currently a Registered Provisional Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists and an active member of the Psychologists Association of Alberta.

In 2002, Roberta became the first Blackfoot Indigenous woman to serve with the Lethbridge Police Service. Her career spanned roles in Patrols, the Community Resource Unit, School Resource Unit, and as an FASD Youth Justice Officer. Roberta retired from Policing in 2019 having joined Lethbridge Polytechnic as a faculty member in the Justice Studies Program in 2017, where she continues to mentor and inspire the next generation of justice professionals. 

Roberta is married, a mother of two daughters, and a proud grandmother. While raising her family, working full-time, and volunteering in the community, she completed graduate studies. In her spare time, enjoys spending time with her family, welding, hiking, camping, photography, dragon boating, horseback riding, and giving back to the community through volunteer work.

Mike Mayo

Faculty Relations Officer

Mike’s professional journey is grounded in a solid educational foundation. He is a graduate of Lethbridge Polytechnic, where he completed the CIT program, and he holds a Bachelor’s degree in Management from the University of Lethbridge. His education and experience have provided him with the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively manage the complexities of labor relations in a strategic and thoughtful manner.

Outside of his professional responsibilities, Mike enjoys spending time outdoors. He frequently engages in activities such as hiking in the mountains, swimming in glacier-fed waters, or enjoying the summer weather. Originally from Lethbridge and raised in Edmonton, Mike values the Southern Alberta region and its natural surroundings.

In his personal life, Mike is involved in the day-to-day activities of raising two teenagers. Whether it’s coordinating their extracurricular schedules or spending time with his family, he approaches the responsibilities of parenthood with dedication. Mike also follows a guiding principle, inspired by a quote from Maya Angelou: “If you are always trying to be normal, you will never know how amazing you can be,” which reflects his commitment to authenticity and personal growth.
